Committee of Supply 2026 debate, Day 2: Gan Siow Huang on sharpening Singapore’s development assistance
Against the backdrop of a world that is marked by sharp geopolitical competition and intensifying great power rivalry, the work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has become more salient, said Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Gan Siow Huang. Singapore is happy to share to help others in their development journey and has revamped MFA’s Development Partnership Directorate to better integrate its development assistance across government agencies, international organisations and foundations to deliver the best possible outcomes. Speaking in parliament on Friday (Feb 27), she said Singapore is now better able to mobilise the full ecosystem and expand its focus to new domains such as the digital economy and climate resilience. Turning to consular services, she said MFA has enhanced its eRegister system for Singaporeans to register by Singpass, as well as its 24/7 Consular Response Centre to provide effective and timely support.
