Committee of Supply 2026 debate, Day 2: Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim on closing ranks to secure national interests
As a diverse multiracial society, Singaporeans will have different views on international developments but they have shown that they can stay united and close ranks on issues of national interests. Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim shared this observation in parliament on Friday (Feb 27). He also highlighted Singaporeans’ support for humanitarian efforts, such as assistance for the people in Gaza, saying it was heartwarming to witness this whole-of-society effort. Mr Zhulkarnain also stressed the need to expand Singapore’s global footprint, by strengthening long-standing friendships and building new ones in fast-growing markets and emerging regions. He said Singapore is pursuing a whole-of-government approach, including establishing new embassies and touchpoints and unlocking economic opportunities for companies.
