Committee of Supply 2026 debate, Day 3: Andre Low on improving consumer protection

06:05 Min

Deceptive commercial practices are spreading from “the usual suspects” like telcos and gyms to industries such as direct-to-consumer brands and e-commerce, said NCMP Andre Low. He said each year, consumer watchdog CASE and the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore receive 40 to 50 complaints about such cases, and that is just the tip of the iceberg. In parliament on Monday (Mar 2), he called for more measures to protect consumers and urged the authorities to consider criminalising severe predatory sales tactics aimed at vulnerable people.
