Committee of Supply 2026 debate, Day 4: Dennis Tan on overcoming plastics recycling challenges

04:11 Min

Singapore must build an ecosystem that sustains plastics recycling even when external market conditions deteriorate, and reduces reliance on incineration when plastics recycling ceases to be commercially viable. MP Dennis Tan said this in parliament on Tuesday (Mar 3). He suggested expanding extended producer responsibility (EPR) beyond beverage containers to cover all packaging and mandating a minimum percentage of recycled plastic in bottles, packaging and goods. The government can also use public procurement as a market anchor, he said.
