Expand coverage for all chronic diseases under the Chronic Disease Management Programme so they can be subsidised under CHAS and paid for via MediSave, said MP Gerald Giam. Citing a previous government explanation that the risk of overconsumption necessitated those caps, he asked how this applies to public healthcare institutions where “salaried doctors follow strict protocols”. Mr Giam said the real risk is not overconsumption but under-treatment, when patients are “forced to choose between their cash and their care”. He spoke in parliament on Wednesday (Mar 4).
