Debate on President’s speech: Lee Hui Ying on support for ‘senior youths’
In parliament on Thursday (Sep 25), MP Lee Hui Ying spoke on behalf of “senior youths” - Singaporeans in their mid-twenties to mid-thirties who are burdened with “adulting responsibilities”. They have just entered the workforce, just got married, just started their parenthood journeys. They must find their footing in an uncertain world, while also being caregivers to their children and/or senior parents. Ms Lee said they often find their high aspirations being met with real anxieties. She hopes the GRaduate Industry Traineeships (GRIT) programme for fresh graduates can be expanded to young, early-career workers who might have lost their jobs. She also advocated more childcare leave and caring workplaces.
