Debate on President’s speech: Xie Yao Quan on moving forward together on ‘escalator of progress’

Singapore’s system of meritocracy is not perfect, but it remains a vital principle for social harmony and achieving success as one people, said MP Xie Yao Quan. Speaking in parliament on Thursday (Sep 25), he stressed the need to continue to build and develop meritocracy and make life better for everyone. He pointed out that while some people may lag behind, everyone must be on the "escalator of progress". He urged the government to ensure that this escalator is always moving towards progress for everyone.
