Dennis Tan on Companies, Business Trusts and Other Bodies (Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill

05:54 Min

One of the greatest lessons from COVID-19 is virtual meetings, said MP Dennis Tan. Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday (May 9), he welcomed the statutory recognition of virtual meetings in some of Singapore’s laws. He said while it remains to be seen how many companies would retain virtual meetings or continue with hybrid meetings, there are some who question whether the Bill should even have retained the rights of companies and their management to insist on 100 per cent physical attendance. He hopes most of Singapore’s companies will at least provide hybrid options for meetings, in line with the current common practice of having virtual meetings, and not make physical attendance for meetings, such as annual general meetings, mandatory. He said allowing hybrid meetings may boost attendance.
