Desmond Tan on households with electricity and water bills in arrears
About 13,000 households have electricity accounts in arrears, while 150,000 households have water bills in arrears - of which some 1,200 have arrears of at least S$250. For these households, PUB has installed flow restrictors to reduce the flow of water to their homes, with normal flow to be restored once their arrears are paid off. In August 2021, PUB started a Pay-As-You-Use pilot for water, like the one offered for electricity. Fifty households are taking part in the trial and PUB will determine whether to extend the scheme to more users. Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment Desmond Tan said this in Parliament on Tuesday (Apr 5) in reply to an MP’s questions.
