Diana Pang on Veterinary Practice Bill
A truly effective veterinary service system not only regulates the profession, but is also one that Singaporeans trust, understand and access, said MP Diana Pang. It must provide robust protection for the public, strengthen guidelines for vets and ensure disciplinary powers are wielded with appropriate safeguards, she said. Speaking in parliament on Wednesday (Apr 8), she urged the government to think more broadly about the vet sector, especially amid escalating costs, as well as explore ways to make pet care more accessible and manageable. She also suggested setting up a compensation fund to cushion the financial impact in serious cases where insurance has proved to be inadequate, is unavailable or has lapsed. Turning to the pipeline for vets, she asked if the government has done a study on the demand for a full-time vet school in Singapore.
