Don Wee on Mental Capacity (Amendment) Bill

03:28 Min

In Parliament on Tuesday (Apr 2), MP Don Wee expressed concern over the omission of a sentence in the electronic Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) form, expressly stating that it was intended to be a deed. He asked how affected parties will be protected in the interim period before retroactive validation comes into force. He wanted to know what measures are being taken to ensure that such omissions do not happen in future, not just for electronic LPAs but for other documents. Mr Wee also asked if the take-up rate for LPAs is on target and about measures to simplify and expedite the process for deputyship.
