Gan Thiam Poh on Family Justice Reform Bill

06:05 Min

The efforts to focus more on therapeutic justice will help to reduce the adversarial stance of both parties and allow them to get through the most difficult phase of their life and “reset” for the future, said MP Gan Thiam Poh. Speaking in Parliament on Monday (May 8), he believes that the proposed changes will give the presiding judge in divorce cases greater control, including setting restraints on the cross-examination process in court and preventing family relationships from further disintegrating. Mr Gan also said the proposed changes will improve the efficiency of the maintenance payment process by ensuring that both parties, without any court approvals, cannot make unnecessary requests to the court. He also stressed the need for couples to get to the source of their dispute to solve their problem and avoid being entangled in unnecessary situations.
