Gan Thiam Poh on public housing motions
The current policy for all land sales proceeds to be returned to the national reserves is a wise approach, said MP Gan Thiam Poh. Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday (Feb 7), he said it is fair that the premium and cost of the land sales are to be shared by all Singaporeans. He also sought clarifications on the proposals by NCMPs Leong Mun Wai and Hazel Poa to exclude the land value in the pricing of HDB flats. He wanted to know how they will ensure the fair allocation of flats among Singaporeans. He also asked how they propose to look after Singaporeans who want to age in place. Mr Gan urged the Government to increase the housing grants for first-time applicants. He stressed that Singapore is not just providing housing but also building "endearing homes" for all its people.
