Janet Ang on Online Criminal Harms Bill

06:36 Min

All users have to be extra careful and diligent, “not let our fingers do the thinking”, or get impatient and frustrated with having to read the repeated warnings about scams, said NMP Janet Ang. Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday (Jul 5), she urged them to set their digital house in order, spring clean regularly and do digital health checks. She voiced support for the Government’s approach in tackling the pervasive threat of online criminal harm, saying it has spared no effort in public education and engaging private sector stakeholders. She wanted to know how the Government will continue to deepen this collaboration. She also stressed the need to balance effective law enforcement with privacy rights and legal safeguards. She pointed out that the Directions against harmful content may touch on issues out of Singapore’s jurisdiction and wanted to know how the Government would handle this challenge.
