Janil Puthucheary on security of Government-issued mobile devices
Government-issued mobile devices are secured through technical controls and policies on appropriate use. For example, connecting to the Government network must be done through a virtual private network. Software is also installed to allow remote removal of data from compromised devices. The devices cannot be used to process and store highly classified information that may cause serious damage to national interests. Officers are also given regular training on the do’s and don’ts as well as cybersecurity risks to try to ensure that safeguards are not weakened by inappropriate behaviour. Senior Minister of State for Communications and Information and Minister-in-charge of GovTech Singapore Janil Puthucheary gave these details in Parliament on Tuesday (May 9) in reply to an MP’s questions.
