Jeffrey Siow on managing number of private-hire car drivers
The number of private-hire car vocational licences has continued to be maintained at about the same level for the past few years and the government has no plans at the moment to constrain the total number of drivers. Acting Transport Minister Jeffrey Siow said this in reply to an MP’s questions in parliament on Wednesday (Mar 4). He added that private-hire cars continue to be an important mode of transport in Singapore’s transport system for those unable to drive or are unwilling to own a car, but yet would like to have access to private transport on a “pay-per-use” basis.
