Joan Pereira on Environmental Public Health (Amendment) Bill

Workers in the waste collection and materials recovery sub-sectors are providing essential services, and their wages should reflect their valuable contributions, said MP Joan Pereira. Speaking in Parliament on Monday (Feb 6), she said they should also be adequately compensated for the challenging nature and conditions of their jobs. She said the Progressive Wage Model provides the structure to address these issues and uplift their professions. She stressed the need to have a formal career progression framework to attract more local workers. She urged the Government to provide more support to companies to help them and their workers progress. Turning to anti-littering campaigns and sustainability efforts, she hopes the Government can focus on collaborative partnerships and allocate grants for waste management companies to run public education campaigns.
