Louis Ng on Building and Related Works (Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill
The proposed CORENET X platform will streamline the planning process into a single submission by developers and provide a coordinated response across agencies, said MP Louis Ng. Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday (Jul 4), he said it is a good example of how all stakeholders can work together for better outcomes. Mr Ng stressed the need to legislate an environmental impact assessment framework for all building works. He said Singapore still has not taken the critical step of introducing a formal law on this. He said such a law will ensure that the benefits of development are balanced properly with the cost to the environment. Mr Ng said Singaporeans could also be consulted to ensure that the law reflects their values and priorities. The law could also spell out the principles and rules to standardise when and how information gets disclosed and in turn strengthen the Government’s principle of transparency, he said.
