Singapore should have a national DNA registry as an additional tool in the police's crime-solving arsenal, said MP Melvin Yong. Speaking in Parliament on Monday (Sep 12), he said the proposed changes under the Registration of Criminals (Amendment) Bill will allow the police to enhance the collection and use of DNA but there is "space" to do more, and not limit DNA collection only to criminals. He suggested having a national registry for Singaporeans and residents which could prove helpful in identifying missing victims or in an event with mass casualties.
