Motion: Jamus Lim on reinforcing Singapore’s position as a global transport hub
For decades, Singapore has ridden the waves of globalisation to supercharge its economic growth. However, it must now adapt its policies in view of an emerging new global order, said MP Jamus Lim in parliament on Tuesday (Jul 7). This includes pivoting from merchandise trade to tradable services; placing greater focus on its "near abroad" - Asia in general and ASEAN in particular - when it comes to economic relationships, attracting business as an international financial centre and providing exposure for skilled local talent; and adopting a more “incrementalist” approach in building mega physical infrastructure projects, lest they backfire if globalisation is more restrained in future.
