Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim on cases of seniors dying undetected at home
HDB will know of cases where seniors die undetected at home “either directly or through other agencies called upon to respond”, said Minister of State for National Development Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim in Parliament on Tuesday (May 9). He said seniors living in studio apartments or selected rental blocks have alert alarm systems which they can use to call for help in emergencies. The community is also a critical source of help, with proactive outreach to at-risk seniors by Silver Generation Ambassadors under the Agency for Integrated Care and support services offered by Active Ageing Centres. Dr Faishal said his ministry will consider MP Yip Hon Weng’s idea of visiting a senior’s flat to check on them if they default on rent and utilities payments. Mr Yip had asked if the ministry planned to track cases of seniors dying alone at home with a view to introducing preventive measures.
