Murali Pillai on Statutes (Miscellaneous Amendments) (No. 2) Bill
Update the definition of a “juvenile” in the Criminal Procedure Code to refer to a person who is 10 years of age or older but below 18 years old. This is to align with other related legislation, such as the Children and Young Persons (Amendment) Act which increased the maximum age of a “juvenile” from 16 years old to below 18 years old. It is among a slew of proposed miscellaneous changes across 12 Acts under the Bill outlined by Minister of State for Law Murali Pillai in Parliament on Monday (Oct 14). They broadly fall within three buckets - making legislative provisions clearer, updating legislative provisions in light of revised terminology and definitions, as well as streamlining and improving operational effectiveness and delivery of policies.
