SCDF's Operation Lionheart retains status as Heavy Urban Search and Rescue Team
The Singapore Civil Defence Force has retained its status as a Heavy Urban Search and Rescue Team — the highest level recognised by the United Nations. The elite status follows a tough 36-hour assessment simulating large-scale disasters. Observed by UN evaluators, the SCDF proved it can lead complex international rescue missions under extreme conditions. Singapore's Operation Lionheart team was the first in Asia Pacific to earn the "Heavy" classification in 2008. Since its formation in 1990, the team has been deployed to 21 overseas missions. Aslam Shah goes behind the scenes to see how the SCDF is pushing boundaries with new tech and fresh talent.
