Sharael Taha on Economic Expansion Incentives (Relief from Income Tax) (Amendment) Bill

04:39 Min

Singapore's attractiveness for foreign direct investments is underpinned by its robust legal framework, skilled workforce, political stability, excellent transportation system and world-class infrastructure, said MP Sharael Taha. Speaking in Parliament on Monday (Nov 11), he pointed out that Singapore’s tax incentive frameworks give the country a competitive edge to attract companies looking to build capabilities globally. He also sought clarifications on the Economic Expansion Incentives (Relief from Income Tax) (Amendment) Bill. He wanted to know what criteria overseas investments have to meet to qualify for the allowable fixed capital expenditure. Noting that the Bill grants the minister the authority to define the list of qualifying business activities, he wanted to know what criteria would be used to determine such activities and how often the list would be reviewed.
