Singapore PM Lawrence Wong gives more details on Faishal Ibrahim's resignation
Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong addressed the resignation of Associate Professor Faishal Ibrahim from his political roles on Wednesday (Jul 22), saying it was the right course of action for him to step down.
“Some have asked if the consequences were overly harsh. Faishal himself, reflecting on the matter, realised that it was not tenable for him to continue as an office holder and as an MP,” Mr Wong said.
Assoc Prof Faishal — who was Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs — had on Monday stepped down from his political roles and as a member of the People's Action Party after he admitted his interactions with a woman "fell short" of the standards required of a political office holder.
Mr Wong added that the same standards and consequences would have applied to any other Members of Parliament (MPs) in the People’s Action Party (PAP).
