Lawrence Wong to make first-ever visit by Singapore PM to Timor-Leste
Starting tomorrow, Lawrence Wong will make an official visit to Timor-Leste — the first by any Singapore prime minister. During his two-day trip, Mr Wong will also be conferred the Order of Timor-Leste, which recognises Singapore's contributions to one of Southeast Asia's newest independent states. Both countries have long-standing ties that date back to before Timor-Leste's independence in 2002. In 1999, Singapore was one of the first countries to contribute to the International Force East Timor, a multinational peacekeeping taskforce. Sherlyn Seah reports from Dili.
