Adult card fares on Singapore buses, trains to increase by up to 10 cents from Dec 27
Rail and bus fares for adults will increase by nine to 10 cents per journey this year. The Public Transport Council said the 5% increase is to ensure workers are paid fairly, and to maintain and expand Singapore's transport network. Those paying with cash will have to fork out up to 20 cents more per trip to cover the higher costs of handling physical money. The new fares will take effect on Dec 27. To help lower-income households, S$60 one-off public transport vouchers will be distributed to those eligible. Claudia Lim reports.
