Sun Xueling on meeting infant care, childcare and preschool demand

06:27 Min

Parents who register interest on the Early Childhood Development Agency's (ECDA) Preschool Search Portal have to wait between a few weeks to a few months for infant and childcare places, said Minister of State for Social and Family Development Sun Xueling in Parliament on Monday (Sep 12). She acknowledged that preschool capacity remains tight in some areas, especially for younger infant and playgroup ages. She said ECDA is working with anchor operators to ramp up operations and recruit manpower. ECDA is on track to develop 10,000 more full-day preschool places by next year, with 4,900 places having already materialised between January and July this year. Another 2,200 spaces have been opened by commercial operators. Responding to an MP's questions, Ms Sun said ECDA projects demand for each area by analysing the demographics, enrolment trends and existing supply.
