Tan See Leng on infrastructure upgrades to support new energy sources
In Parliament on Wednesday (Nov 13), Second Minister for Trade and Industry Tan See Leng responded to an MP’s question on plans to upgrade the national grid and energy infrastructure to accommodate new energy sources like small modular reactors (SMRs) and ammonia. Dr Tan said SMRs are still nascent and yet to be fully commercialised, and Singapore is monitoring developments to assess if and when they may be safe and feasible for use. Meanwhile, Singapore plans to pilot an ammonia power plant by 2028 to evaluate its feasibility and will then consider whether to build the necessary infrastructure to scale up this new pathway.
