Two Singaporeans among three hikers dead after Indonesia's Mount Dukono erupts
Indonesian authorities are racing to locate and rescue hikers on the island of Halmahera, after Mount Dukono volcano erupted, sending a towering ash plume about 10km into the sky. Three people — two Singaporeans and one Indonesian — have died, while seven other Singaporeans have been evacuated safely. Local residents, visitors and hikers have been advised not to carry out activities within a 4km radius of the crater. Halmahera's police chief also said that climbing Mount Dukono had been banned since an earlier eruption in 2024. Chandni Vatvani reports from Jakarta.
