Edward Chia on Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (Amendment) Bill
The intent to decarbonise aviation and align Singapore with global net-zero targets is a step in the right direction, said MP Edward Chia. Speaking in parliament on Tuesday (Oct 14), he said while sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) offers a promising pathway to decarbonisation, it is still in its infancy in terms of supply, cost and scalability. The question is “how we get there, and at what pace and price”, he added. He stressed that its success will depend on how well it drives real investments and innovation across the value chain. Mr Chia also sought clarifications on several aspects of the Bill - the viability of SAF, upstream production capacity, feedstock standards and availability, impact of the levy on investors and airlines, as well as regional opportunities in green jobs and Singapore’s growth as a regional hub for sustainable aviation.
