Cassandra Lee on Cross-Border Railways (Border Control Co-Location) Bill

11:40 Min

The Cross-Border Railways (Border Control Co-Location) Bill supports a more efficient approach to cross-border movement between Singapore and Malaysia, but legislation alone is not sufficient, said MP Cassandra Lee. Much will depend on how these arrangements are implemented; officers will need to be clear about the scope of their powers, limits of authority and the zones within which they operate. Speaking in parliament on Tuesday (May 5), she stressed the need for processes to be consistent, checks to be carried out with diligence, and information to be handled securely and responsibly. She wanted to know how the specific choices in the framework were made for Singapore and Malaysia.
