Indranee Rajah on policy considerations for maternity and adoption leave
Biological mothers are entitled to 16 weeks of maternity leave, while adoptive mothers are entitled to 12 weeks of adoption leave. The duration of maternity leave is longer by a month, as biological mothers need more time to recuperate physically from childbirth. Adoptive parents receive the same parental and childcare leave benefits as biological parents. Minister in the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister for Finance Indranee Rajah explained the policy considerations for both sets of leave in reply to an MP’s questions in parliament on Thursday (May 7).
