White Paper on Singapore Women’s Development: Gerald Giam on easing load of caregivers

16:48 Min

Caregiving is a huge weight for any individual to bear. Caregivers have made economic and social sacrifices yet they continue to press on out of love and duty to their family. Singapore needs a paradigm shift in its thinking towards caregivers and share some of their burden, with the support of the Government, businesses, community and Singaporeans, said MP Gerald Giam. Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday (Apr 5), he made several suggestions to better support caregivers. These include getting all employers to provide flexible work arrangements, legislating family care leave, recognising the skills and work experience of caregivers, adjusting the approach to financial support and compensation for caregivers, and making home-based caregiving services more accessible to all households.
