White Paper on Singapore Women’s Development: Joan Pereira on stronger support for caregivers

06:38 Min

Caregivers are emotionally connected to their charges. They should have a constant familiar contact to call so that suitable help can be offered if they need someone to help out, said MP Joan Pereira. Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday (Apr 5), she stressed the need to improve assistance for caregivers, many of whom are women, and particularly for those looking after the elderly. She urged the Government to see how it can further tighten the assistance framework to help lessen the stress on caregivers. She suggested having a team of people who can "journey" with the caregivers to help minimise disruptions.
