White Paper on Singapore Women’s Development: Sun Xueling on protecting women from violence and harm
To better protect women from all forms of violence, including sexual violence and harassment within and beyond the home, resources have been beefed up for a national helpline and witnesses and survivors will be able to report incidents online or through a mobile app by the end of 2022. Also this year, victims of sexual violence will have access to comprehensive psychosocial support and care. Minister of State for Social and Family Development and Education Sun Xueling said this in Parliament on Tuesday (Apr 5). She added that societal mindsets are at the root of many sexual offences. This is why equality of the sexes, the value of respect and appropriate behaviour are reflected or taught as part of the entire education journey. Ms Sun also spoke about support measures for women with different needs. For instance, she announced the pilot of a child-minding service for low-income women, including single parents, outside childcare operating hours.
