Yeo Wan Ling on Workplace Fairness Bill

09:53 Min

The Workplace Fairness Legislation marks a significant milestone for Singapore and the labour movement towards levelling the playing field for women and caregivers. The journey towards the Workplace Fairness Bill has been a “long and deliberate one”, and is one that has been championed by many generations of female union leaders. MP Yeo Wan Ling said this in Parliament on Tuesday (Jan 7). She sought clarification on the Ministry of Manpower’s investigations and enforcement measures should employers run afoul of the Tripartite Guidelines on Fair Employment Practices. She also wanted to know if there are plans to further avail resources to companies in the implementation of anti-discrimination practices and to better equip HR professionals in small- and medium-sized enterprises to handle workplace discrimination disputes effectively.
