Zaqy Mohamad on efforts to uplift low-wage workers
The Progressive Wage Model uplifts low-wage workers through sustainable wage increases, as well as career and training progression pathways to raise their value add to employers, said Senior Minister of State for Manpower Zaqy Mohamad. Under the Workfare Skills Support, all employers, including micro businesses, who send eligible lower-wage workers for such training may receive absentee payroll of up to 95 per cent of the trainee's basic hourly salary, capped at S$13 per hour. Replying to an MP’s questions in parliament on Tuesday (Feb 18), Mr Zaqy highlighted the efforts to help businesses cope with the impact of improving the wage outcomes of low-wage workers.
