4 teenagers arrested for allegedly stealing a motorcycle in Pasir Ris, believed to be linked to another theft

SINGAPORE — Four teenagers, aged between 17 and 19, have been arrested for the alleged theft of a motorcycle at a car park in Pasir Ris Central last Sunday (Oct 22).

In a media statement on Wednesday, the police said that they received a report from the alleged victim at about 8.40am on Sunday.

“Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from police cameras and closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the four teenagers and arrested them on Oct 24,” the police said.

Initial investigations indicated that the teenagers were allegedly involved in another case of motorcycle theft.

The stolen motorcycles were later recovered by the police.

Three of the four teenagers will be charged in court on Thursday with theft of a motor vehicle, which carries a jail term of up to seven years and a fine.

Investigations are ongoing for the other teen, aged 17.

The police advise motorcycle owners to take the following crime prevention measures:

  • Park the motorcycle in well-lit areas
  • Install an anti-theft alarm for the motorcycle and ensure that it is well-maintained
  • Use a motorcycle canvas to cover the motorcycle and secure both ends
  • Use additional locking devices such as disc brake locks or install a suspension guard
  • Remove the ignition key and lock the motorcycle whenever it is left unattended
  • Do not leave spare keys inside the motorcycle storage box
