Covid-19: Pilots, crew of grounded Turkish Airlines flight return to Istanbul
Turkish Airlines flight TK55 left Singapore and returned to Istanbul at around 2am on March 5, 2020, with no passengers on board.
SINGAPORE — The Turkish Airlines plane that was grounded at Changi Airport on Wednesday (March 4) night after a passenger tested positive for Covid-19 returned to Turkey on Thursday with no passengers on board, the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) said.
Three pilots and 11 crew members — who had come into close contact with the infected passenger — left for Istanbul on the plane at around 2am on Thursday with no passengers on board. The crew will be quarantined upon their arrival in Istanbul.
Turkish Airlines flight TK54 arrived in Singapore on Tuesday. A passenger on the flight later tested positive for Covid-19 and the return flight, TK55, originally scheduled to depart from Changi Airport on Wednesday night, was grounded.
A report by The Straits Times said that some of the 200 affected passengers were put up in hotels, while the Singapore residents went home.
