SINGAPORE: A 66-year-old man charged with murdering a woman after a suspected noise dispute in Yishun has been ordered to be remanded for medical examination.

Koh Ah Hwee, a Singaporean, appeared in court on Thursday (Oct 9) via video link from his place of remand.

Wearing a red polo shirt, the man nodded at various points in response to a Hokkien interpreter and did not say much.

The prosecutor asked for him to be remanded at Changi Prison's medical centre for medical examination, noting that he faces a High Court charge.

The judge gave the order and fixed a further mention for Oct 30.

Koh was charged in hospital last month with murdering Ms Nguyen Phuong Tra, a 30-year-old Vietnamese woman, by stabbing her in the chest with a knife.

He allegedly stabbed her at about 7.25am on Sep 24 in a common corridor on the sixth floor of Block 323 Yishun Central.

The police arrived at the scene to find Koh, the woman and another man lying injured along the corridor.

Koh had allegedly injured the couple with the knife after a fight arising from a noise dispute.

The woman was taken to hospital, where she died.

At the first further mention of Koh's case on Oct 2, he was ordered to be remanded for further investigations.

Subsequently, he was taken back to the scene on Oct 6 in an unmarked black van.

He is currently unrepresented.

If convicted of murder, he can be sentenced to death.
