To reduce electronic waste, the European Union (EU) requires all mobile phones and other portable electronic devices sold in the EU to be equipped with the USB-C charging port by the end of 2024. Singapore is monitoring developments in this space, including manufacturers' response to the EU requirements. In the meantime, it has implemented other ways to manage e-waste, such as through the Extended Producer Responsibility framework. Minister of State for Trade and Industry Alvin Tan said this in reply to an MP's question in Parliament on Tuesday (Feb 14).
