In 2020, the ride-hailing industry generated an estimated 0.3 million tonnes of carbon emissions for ride-hailing trips. This is about 4 per cent of the estimated seven million tonnes generated by the land transport sector. Taxi and private-hire car companies have committed to making their fleets run on cleaner energy by 2040. Senior Minister of State for Transport Amy Khor said this in Parliament on Monday (Mar 1) in reply to an MP's questions. She said MOT and LTA will continue to work with industry partners to speed up the transition to cleaner energy vehicles.
