The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is marking 50 years since the establishment of its foundational peace deal — the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia. Signed in 1976, the treaty enshrined key principles such as mutual respect for sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs and peaceful settlement of disputes.
