Alice Guo, a Chinese woman who became Philippine mayor, gets life term for human trafficking

A Philippine court has sentenced a former mayor to life in prison for human trafficking. Alice Guo, the former mayor of Bamban, was in fact a Chinese national operating under a Filipino identity. She has been convicted for her role in setting up a scam centre in which hundreds of foreigners were working under threat. Guo also played a key role in allowing her municipality to become the site of massive offshore-gaming and scam operations, known locally as Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs).
