Budget 2026 debate: Denise Phua on inclusive AI adoption
AI is not just a technological story, it is a societal one, said MP Denise Phua in parliament on Tuesday (Feb 24). She called for intentional adoption and transformation to ensure that progress is shared. Ms Phua made several proposals. Introduce a national diagnostic tool to classify small- and medium-sized enterprises based on AI readiness so that they can get tailored support. Strengthen intermediaries such as the Singapore Business Federation and trade associations to guide firms on their way. To protect employees, make workforce plans mandatory for companies to get major AI support. Redesign rather than remove entry-level pathways where AI threatens junior roles.
