China appoints new trade envoy in face of escalating tariff war with US
China has again accused the US of starting the current tariff war, inflicting turmoil on markets and trade. Beijing has repeated that while it does not want a fight, it will not back down from one either. Meanwhile, 58-year-old Li Chenggang has been appointed as a new trade envoy. Over his 28 years at China's Ministry of Commerce, Mr Li was involved in the 2020 US-China trade deal talks. He was also China's ambassador to the World Trade Organization and deputy representative to the United Nations. Deborah Wong reports.
