Committee of Supply 2023 debate, Day 1: Don Wee on global and Singapore's defence spending
Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, many countries have started to allocate a bigger share of their budgets to defence, said MP Don Wee in Parliament on Friday (Feb 24). He asked the Defence Minister to share what some of the global trends in defence spending are, and how these spending trends may affect Singapore given its small size and vulnerable position. He also wanted to know what Singapore’s defence spending will look like in the coming years, as well as the projections for defence spending this year. He asked if the country's defence spending will return to the "past baseline" following the impact of COVID-19.
