Committee of Supply 2023 debate, Day 1: Gerald Giam on thorough scrutiny of military expenditure
MP Gerald Giam said he supports the need to maintain a strong and credible Singapore Armed Forces to effectively defend Singapore. This is why he believes that more thorough scrutiny of the Budget and expenditure of the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) will help to maintain public confidence that the S$17.97 billion allocated to it, the highest among all the ministries, is going entirely towards achieving its mission. Speaking in Parliament on Friday (Feb 24), he asked MINDEF to provide a breakdown of the expenditure.
