Committee of Supply 2024 debate, Day 3: Baey Yam Keng on full subject-based banding

01:46 Min

With the full subject-based banding (SBB) implemented at scale for the Secondary 1 cohort in 120 secondary schools across the island over the past two months, what is the experience so far on how schools and teachers have been coping and adjusting with the change? Senior Parliamentary Secretary Baey Yam Keng raised this question in Parliament on Friday (Mar 1), noting that it would be useful for students and parents to understand the operational challenges and work with the schools to reap the full intended benefits of SBB. He also asked the Ministry of Education how the Singapore-Cambridge Secondary Education Certificate (SEC) system, to be implemented in 2027, will affect the national examinations and how the results will be used for students to choose and be selected for the various post-secondary pathways.
